Over the last several years we have been asked to mediate and assist in resolving numerous family business and partnership disputes. Quite often we note that the initial stumbling block for resolution centers on a misunderstanding or disagreement of value. Once agreement is reached on approaches to value, then, the real work begins to bring both sides together on the remaining important issues.

As a simple example, we note the increased conflict that can arise as an initial business expands over time with additional family members. Quite often the business model cannot sustain the allocation of earnings to more and more family members.
